Nepali Dhaka- Twist

Hello,
Namaste everyone,

'Our nation is our pride'.  When ever people all around the world hears the name Nepal, they think of the highest peak of the world Mt Everest, the country where Lord Gautam Buddha was born, the country blessed with the natural beauty and geography, the nation rich in tradition and culture. I would proudly say, Heaven is a myth, Nepal is real.

"Handloom Dhaka" is another aspect that makes our country popular in textile industry. Handloom dhaka- made in nepal.

The origin of dhaka goes back several hundred years. Palpa and Tehrathum are the two places where dhaka was born. .Its origins can be better associated with women of the Rai and Limbu castes, who weave to make garments for their family. This culture is still continuing and the form of art is performed and practiced in many group of people and places of Nepal. Palpali dhaka being a well-known product line in Nepal. The intricate pattern weaved in Jacquard technique with bright color combination of yarns with its own significance reflects the creativity and skill of the artisans.

An inheritance and a legacy, Dhaka speaks of a tradition. The name itself evokes fascination among the older  generation while the youth find Dhaka designs appealing to make a trendy and stylish fashion statement.
Here Sabah Nepal, the social business organization which is actively working for the the home based workers and promoting the craftsmanship of dhaka weaving.Sabah Nepal is the pioneer trend setter for transforming traditional dhaka i.e. dhaka topi, shawl, guniyo cholo into fashionable contemporary designs, which is at its peak stage. Those colorful handloom dhaka  made by the talented and hardworking artisans of Sabah Nepal are also liked by the foreigners either living in Nepal or outside.

Lets not make it long, the look that I am sharing today is all about our traditional dhaka. Dhaka that I have used for my blouse is among the best of the best collection of Sabah Nepal. I have tried to portray the strong and bold side of a girl who can break all the walls of  discrimination, superstition and wrong practice that is still prevalent in our society. She is ready for positive change on herself and is such confident to handle all the problem.

This beautiful dhaka blouse is paired up with the bright blue silk sari with golden border . underneath black jeans has been wore to give the twist in sari.

Could not help posting my picture. Actually made the dress for the reception of my brother., where girls are supposed to be in Indianized lehenga-choli, heavy embroidered sari or Kurtis but I was in hand-loom dhaka blouse and a sari with a twist.

Goth

Hello everyone,

Last time we talked much about our traditional values, colorful attire and accessories . More than 90% of Nepalese women follows the trend "Go Green" in Shrawan. The trendsetter is our tradition that hits annually for a month.

Remember the indoor shoot that I had done few days ago, this look was also shoot on that day.
The dress inspired by the Gothic fashion

Gothic fashion is a clothing style marked by conspicuously dark, mysterious, antiquated homogeneous features. A dark, sometimes morbid fashion and style of dress, typical Gothic fashion includes a pale complexion with colored black hair, black lips and black clothes. Both male and female goths can wear dark eyeliner and dark fingernail polish most especially black.

The concept of the shoot is to portray how every girl can look glamorous if she chooses the right outfit and she is confident to carry it.After all beauty comes in all sizes and everyone, every  soul is beautiful. So no worries if you don't poses the vital statistic 36-24-36, the main thing is to have sound health.

I introduce you to the talent, Miss Deepika Thapa, this 19 years old girl has justified the whole concept. Thank you so much Deepika in such a short notice you were there for the shoot, and you were awesome.

Shrawan sombar

Namaste

Hope everybody had wonderful days this week. Today I am neither writing about my collection nor my look. I just want to share some of our traditional values that are believed and are still practice way long. Actually, Shrawan the forth month of Nepali calendar is all about Lord Shiva, Fasting, ladies in green and red attire, full of jewelries, bangals, mehendi (heena, on the hand). The important month for all the Hindu women, whole day fasting and praying for long, prosperous  and healthy life of their family and husband.

Significance of Fasting on Shrawan

It is believed that the month of Shrawan is very dear to Lord Shiva. People observe fast on every Monday of shrawan month "Shrawan sombar" and worship Lord Shiva with enthusiasm and faith. According to the ancient belief, those who perform monday fasting is blessed with happiness and all the pleasures of the world. Her all the desires are fulfilled. Donation and charity made on this day gives fruits equivalent to that you have given.
People have their own purpose to observe this fast. Some observe it for long life, happy married life or for happiness and prosperity of children. "Shrawan Sombar"  Fast provides wealth, luxury and increase in generation.
Ladies dressed well in red and green goes very early to the temples of Lord Shiva and perform their rituals, all 4-5 Monday of the month. The most crowd of women is seen in Pashupatinath of Kathmandu, among one of the heritage site of Nepal listed in world heritage by UNESCO.

Scientific Significance
Some medical practitioners believe that fasting during the month of Shrawan is good for health. When the rains start pelting, sunlight is scare and this slows down the digestive system. It is good to eat food that is very easy to digest. That is why, many Hindus follow a strict vegetarian diet during the month of Shrawan.  Fasting also has detoxifying effect on the digestive system. This is a natural protection against water borne diseases that are common during this period of the year.
Honestly, I have never fasted because I am a foodie, all I need is food, but probably I need to fast this time because I have put on some weight  hahahahhaha..... that was just a joke any way.
