Ethical- casual style

While fast fashion describes clothing that is cheaply made and intended for short-term use, sustainable or ethical fashion is the opposite. It takes into account the full life cycle of the product — from the design, sourcing, and production processes & looks at everyone and everything being affected by it, from the environment, to the workers and communities where it’s produced, to the consumers who purchase it.

Sustainable fashion is not just a trend, but a holistic approach to fashion, which starts with design and carries on through all the steps of the sourcing and manufacturing processes. Fashion can only become truly ethical when it maximizes benefits to people and communities involved in making it, while minimizing its own impact on the environment.

Here is a chart, which has different segments under going which we can contribute in lesser harm in the environment and less wastage.

Few popular ethical brands which are actively contributing
  • PACT
  • EVERLANE
  • threadUP
  • Eileen Fisher
  • Cuyana

We as a consumers have to be aware what are we buying and are the people behind that particular merchandise are getting benefits? this will change the behavior of buying.  the Therefore, sustainable fashion has the potential to empower consumers’ feeling of fulfillment by making more conscious choices and their consumption of sustainable fashion products.

The dress I am wearing today is made of hand woven cotton, got the material from Sabah Nepal, the brand which is actively working with the core concept of women empowerment and ethical fashion.

I can proudly wear the dress since, the weavers of the cloth are not been exploited , that particular weaving profession have improve their livelihood, Sabah has transparent working module &  its natural fiber- no any harm to the environment.
And the fabric is very light and breathable - perfect for summer, hence came up with the design which and be casually worn as many times I want and not that expensive as people think of ethical clothing are.

Fashion Revolution Nepal 2019

About 75 million work directly in the fashion and textile industry, this is the 2nd largest industry for polluting the environment. Many workers involved in this industry are subjected to exploitation; verbal and physical abuse, working in unsafe condition, with very little pay.
Fashion Revolution movement started with the motto to  highlight the processes and celebrates the makers behind our clothing, those who are so often invisible and marginalized. This movement continues to grow, with more people than ever calling for a fairer, safer, more transparent fashion industry.
As Fashion Revolution week has been celebrated by most of the country by conducting various educative programs and campaigns. The country coordinator team of Nepal has successfully organized the program  on 3rd of May. The hall was beautifully decorated with the merchandise of few brand like Resa living, Sabah Nepal and many more...since they are purely ethical and sustainable. The program started with the very powerful informative video; the exploitation of the workers in fashion industry, bitter truth of inhumanity in their work place, impact of fashion industry on our environment, the challenges and effects of fast fashion and many more.
That video was so powerful , all the audience felt the pain that the workers and our mother earth is going through, I personally got goose bumps, and eye filled with tears after watching the gun shot to the innocent workers who were fighting for their right , when a lady narrating her struggle while working in the factory and how brutally they were punished just because the raised their voice for right and toxic waste released from the factories and the fertilizers used onto the soil that are deteriorating our land, water and soil thus directly affecting on our health and extinction of water bodies and animals.

Now its time we as consumers have become more conscious of self health, social well-being, the vulnerability of our planet, and the consequence of their actions on the wellness of the next generations. We as a consumers have to be aware what are we buying and are the people behind that particular merchandise are getting benefits? this will change the behavior of buying. Therefore, sustainable fashion has the potential to empower consumers’ feeling of fulfillment by making more conscious choices and their consumption of sustainable fashion products.
